Buddhism 101. Thursday, February 19, 7:00-9:00pm
In Buddhism’s 2,500-year history, it has grown from a small religious community into a quiet, but powerful presence that spans the globe. Buddhism 101 focuses on the Buddha’s basic teachings that he delivered 2,500 years ago. We also see how state-of-the-art brain research supports the validity of this ancient wisdom. While we briefly look at the three major Buddhist groups, our emphasis remains on how we can live happier lives and cause less suffering for ourselves and others. The teachings challenge us to think in new ways about the world and the ways that each of us can create a satisfying and productive human life.

Insight Meditation Open House. Saturdays: November 15, December 13, January 17, February 21, March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20; 1:30-3:00pm
Whether you are curious about meditation as a way to heal your immune system and calm your mind or you are a long term meditator who wants some fine tuning, this hour focuses on you! Scientists have proven that meditation strengthens the immune system, increases heart health, reduces stress, & slows biological aging. Beth offers an overview of insight meditation, known in Asia as Vipassana. At the heart of Insight Meditation is the practice of mindfulness – a process that cultivates a clear, non-judgmental awareness of our thoughts, and actions. Join Beth Evard, Founder of Princeton Insight Meditation for our new monthly Open House sessions. You will get the opportunity for 2 short meditation practice sittings, time for questions, and a short review of the latest mind-body meditation research. Open to beginners and experienced meditators.

Silent Meditation Retreat. Sunday, February 22, 12:00-5:00pm
This half-day Vipassana (insight) retreat uses mindfulness meditation, which allows you to become more aware of the world around and the one inside. Most of the time we will hold silence. This way you stay with your present experience as it unfolds. You watch the body quiet, the mind clear, and space open for understanding. Beth provides a caring and safe container for you to experience a mini Vipassana retreat. She offers meditation instructions, interviews for those who may want individual support, and time at the beginning and end for questions.
